Introduction
Thank you for choosing A Lakes Region
Montessori School. We provide a Montessori certified preschool and kindergarten program. The
Montessori Method is a methodology used to teach children. The Montessori Method is a technique that was
developed by Dr. Maria Montessori in the early 1900’s. The method is based on individual learning
and gives each child a sense of purpose and confidence.
Maria Montessori
Dr. Maria Montessori was born in Alcona, Italy in 1870. She was the first
woman to receive a doctrine of medicine in her home land. She eventually abandoned her practice to devote
all of her energies to advocating the rights of the intellectual potential of all children. In 1913 Dr.
Montessori was invited to visit the United States and it was here that she met Helen Keller. In 1937
my instructor, and founder of Spring Valley Montessori School in Washington, Mrs. Madeleine
J. Justus met Dr. Montessori in Geneva, Switzerland. After a lifetime of achievements Dr. Montessori died
in Holland, Amsterdam in 1952 at the age of 82. However, her philosophies regarding education and the role
of the educator still remains highly regarded and are still practiced throughout the world today.
Philosophy
A Lakes Region Montessori is set up to provide a rich and stimulating environment for
children between the ages of 3 - 6. We believe that children can learn naturally and happily as a part
of his or her normal growth with the aid of concrete Montessori materials and concepts. Children develop
a strong sense of worth and value in what they do and who they are. The work process involves attaining
skills, refining tasks, developing sensitivities, strengthening concentration, solving problems, and achieving new insights.
We believe that a child’s first school experience should be in a loving academic environment the old fashioned way.
We believe further that each child is an individual and should be supported in accordance with his or her own needs
and goals.
Facility
In addition to an associates degree in Marine Science and a bachelor’s degree
in Business Administration, the owner and teacher of A Lakes Region Montessori is certified to teach Montessori Education
through the University of Puget Sound and is committed to excellence in education and to individual needs of each child.
She has been teaching Montessori education for over a decade and previously owned another successful school in Seattle,
WA.

Registration forms must be also be completed. Please keep your child’s records current by
updating them immediately whenever any information changes, especially phone numbers.
Illness
It is important that sick children not attend school during their illness.
Children need special care when they are ill that we are not equipped to provide. In cases of contagious
illness, the school needs to be notified as soon as possible so that other parents can be alerted.
If your child becomes ill at school, we will isolate him or her until you arrive.
Please do not send your child to school if he or she is too ill to play outside.
We are not staffed for one-on-one care during outdoor play time.
To aid us in preventing the spread of infections, please keep your child home if he or she is experiencing
the following symptoms:
·
Major cold with profuse runny nose and/or cough
· Fever
· Conjunctivitis
(pink eye)

A chart will be used to record the type and name of the medication, dispensation amount, and time given.
Medication will be stored in the school refrigerator or in a secured, covered container. Unused
medication will be sent home with the parent. Please do not put medicine in your child’s school bag,
coat pocket, etc;
It should
be given directly to the teacher. For medications that must be administered at school, we ask that you
follow the procedures and guidelines listed:

Holidays
Most holidays are celebrated with a potluck lunch. All children are required to bring in a healthy
lunch item/casserole to school to share with their classmates in lieu of a sack lunch. All children enjoy
a meal together as a classroom unit to celebrate the occasion. Parents and siblings are welcome to
join us during these celebrations. (PLEASE NOTE: Our classroom is designed
